Brides are most welcome to visit This Modern Love’s studio at my home on the seafront in Worthing to try on the sample gowns and discuss their made to order gown. We are just along the coast from Brighton. I recommend visiting at least 6 months in advance of your wedding to try on my collection of bridal designs, view the fabrics and lace sample books and to consider bespoke designs such as blending two or more designs together to create your perfect dress. The sample dresses are a UK size 10/12 with some pieces available in UK size 14/16. During a viewing appointment I offer a design consultation, can take your measurements and answer your questions about design, underwear choices, dress fit and styling for your special day.

Bridal style

The aesthetic of This Modern Love is romantic, bohemian and effortlessly elegant - simple, relaxed style gowns that you can feel comfortable wearing, and enjoy celebrating in on your special day. This Modern Love gowns are quite unlike the traditional, formal bridal gown, and the experience at my studio is relaxing, friendly and welcoming. Book an appointment to visit - I look forward to meeting you! Email: thismodernlovebridal@gmail.com

Price range

I design and hand-make all of This Modern Love gowns here at my studio in Worthing - my bridal wear range starts at £800. This Modern Love is a small, independent bridal wear label which does not retail through boutiques. Every dress is made bespoke for you, to your exact measurements and fitted to you in person. Please note that I only make my own designs (and blending together different elements of my designs) - I’m afraid I do not offer garment copying.

Ordering your dress

On deciding which dress is right for you, you can order your dress via Etsy (or for bespoke orders I can send a personalised invoice) and we book in a date for your fitting, where your partially constructed dress is sewn together, fitted to your preferences and finished and ready to take home with you. You will only be required to visit for one fitting and you’ll be very much involved in the design process as your dress is sewn together. I recommend that the fitting takes place 1-2 months before the wedding. When you place your order for your dress I will order your chosen fabrics from my specialist bridal lace suppliers, and cut and prepare the pieces of your gown specific to your measurements.

I recommend that, wherever possible, customers visit to try the sample dresses and view the fabrics in person first - I think it’s really useful to see the style of the gowns and the beautiful quality of fabrics I work with. However, if it is only possible to make one visit, (perhaps because you live some distance away) then it's best to visit for the fitting only - I’m happy to answer any questions you may have in advance via email.

Fitting appointment

After ordering your dress, we’ll book your dress fitting appointment. When you arrive at your fitting appointment your chosen dress is partially made, but it is in several pieces e.g. top, skirt, sleeves etc. During the fitting, your dress is sewn together and adjusted to fit to your body shape and your preferences. The fitting takes 4-5 hours and your dress will be finished and ready to take away with you at the end of the day. Depending on the style and complexity of your chosen dress, you may need to attend up to two fitting appointments.

During your fitting I will ask for your preferences on the fit; ensuring the skirt is not too loose or too tight, checking the position of the waistline, the position of the neckline, the back, the length and fit of the sleeves etc. For finishing touches like sleeves, waistbands, ribbons etc its possible to play around with different options at the fitting, and I will suggest different options as we work through. Feel free to ask any questions or suggestions as we work together on creating your dream dress!

How do the dresses fit?

The style of my designs are relaxed, simple, pull on designs - please let me know during your fitting whether you prefer a loose fit or whether you would like the dress more slim fit and we can adjust it to your preferences, ensuring that it is comfortable and can be pulled on and off. At your viewing appointment the sample gowns can be pinned and adjusted to your figure to illustrate how your bespoke dress would fit. Take a look at my REAL BRIDES galleries here on my website to see This Modern Love bridal gowns in action!

At your fitting, please ensure you bring the underwear and shoes that you will wear on the day of your wedding to ensure that the fit and the length of the dress is correct. You may also like to bring accessories such as a veil or floral crown with you to your fitting so you can try on your whole look together. Fittings usually start at 11:00 am with a break for lunch around 13:00. After lunch we continue with the fitting and finishing of the dress so that its ready to take away with you at the end of the day, pressed and packaged hanging in a dress carrying bag.
